Compress image to 50 KB

The form said: photo, under 50 KB. This page is set to that target before you start. Pick the photo, run the job, and take away a JPEG that fits, with the exact size it landed at printed on the result. Everything runs in your browser; the photo is never uploaded. A different target lives on the Compress image page.

50 KB

Fixed by this page, the form and seller preset. The bench searches quality first, then dimensions when quality alone cannot land close.

How it works

The page decodes your photo and runs a search: it encodes at different quality settings, watches the sizes, and closes in on 50 KB. On hard photos, quality alone has no setting that lands close (the steps jump over the window), so the search then adjusts the dimensions too. That combined search is the shipping method here; on the hardest photo on our bench it landed within about a third of a percent of the target.

Honest limits

At 50 KB a big photo gives up a lot: expect a softer picture, and on noisy photos a smaller one. The result line always states the quality and dimensions used. If a photo is already under 50 KB and already a JPEG, you get it back unchanged. The output is a JPEG, which suits the forms and listings this preset is built for.

Questions

Why a whole page for 50 KB?

Because 50 KB is the size the strict doors ask for: application forms, listing photos, profile and document uploads that reject anything bigger. This page is the Compress image bench with the target already set to 50 KB, so the job is two clicks: pick the photo, run.

How exact is the result?

On a normal photo, our bench landed within about half a percent of the target. The page searches quality and, when quality alone has no setting close enough (which happens on very noisy photos), the dimensions too, and it shows you the exact final size and how far it sits from 50 KB.

What does a 50 KB photo look like?

Softer than the original, and sometimes smaller in dimensions too; there is no free way to keep every pixel at this size. The result line always states the quality and dimensions used, and the preview shows the photo itself, so you can judge the trade before you download.

Where does my photo go?

Nowhere. It is decoded, re-encoded and offered back to you inside this page. Nothing is uploaded.
